Our Story
The VeganMed Foundation (VMF) was founded in 2025 as the nonprofit arm of VeganMed, Inc., recognizing the urgent need for greater transparency in medication labeling. Our mission is to ensure that everyone has the right to know what’s in their medications—because, for some, it’s not just a matter of choice; it can be a matter of life and death.
VMF focuses on advancing education, advocacy, and research efforts to promote the use of animal-free ingredients in health products. We are committed to creating a world where medications are safe, inclusive, and sustainable for all. This is particularly important for individuals with allergies, religious restrictions, or dietary preferences, as well as those who suffer from conditions like Alpha-gal Syndrome.
Founded by Dr. Sachin A. Shah, PharmD, FACC, FAHA, VeganMed, Inc. was created in 2018 after Dr. Shah spent hours searching for an animal-free medication for a patient, revealing a significant gap in the healthcare industry. This realization led to the formation of VMF, where we continue to educate patients, empower healthcare providers, and advocate for systemic changes that ensure animal-free medications are accessible to everyone.
